About Sequestia

We exist because
the gap exists.

India's carbon project pipeline is enormous. The ecological potential is there. The government mandates are in place. The investor appetite is real. What has been missing is a firm capable of standing at the intersection of financial rigour, scientific integrity, and regulatory complexity — and turning viable ideas into registered, funded carbon projects. That is what Sequestia was built to do.

Why this firm exists

Most viable carbon
projects in India
never get built.

India holds one of the world's most significant untapped carbon project pipelines — hundreds of millions of hectares of forests, wetlands, degraded land, and agricultural areas with measurable, verifiable sequestration potential. State forest departments, private landowners, and corporates with net-zero commitments are all searching for credible pathways.

Yet most of these opportunities remain stranded. The reason is not a lack of land, intent, or even capital. It is a structural gap: the people who understand carbon registries rarely understand investor returns. The people who understand finance rarely understand Verra methodology. And the people who understand regulation rarely understand ecology.

Sequestia was founded to occupy that gap permanently — as the team that can simultaneously draft a PDD, model an IRR, manage a government clearance, and design a community consent process. All for the same project.

"The most valuable thing we do is not any one of these things. It is the fact that we do all of them together, in sequence, without dropping the thread."

Our story

Six years in the field.
One firm built from it.

The foundation
Building financial and legal discipline

The journey began with a rigorous grounding in financial analysis, taxation, and corporate law — developing the discipline to model complex returns, structure investor agreements, and navigate regulatory frameworks. This foundation would later prove to be the rarest and most valuable skill in the carbon project development world, where financial literacy is almost universally absent.

The entry into carbon
Joining a carbon project developer

Six years ago, a decision was made to enter the carbon project development space — joining a company implementing nature-based projects in India, including mangrove restoration and other ecosystem recovery initiatives. What followed was an intensive, applied education in everything a carbon project requires: from satellite-based baseline assessments to community consent processes, from PDD drafting to registry submission.

Building expertise across the full lifecycle
From land to credit — end to end

Over six years, direct experience was gained across every stage of the carbon project lifecycle: project evaluation and design, financial feasibility, investor negotiation, Verra and Gold Standard methodology application, MRV tool development, environmental and regulatory advisory, government clearance processes, and community relationship building. Multiple project types across multiple Indian states. Each one adding a layer of understanding that no textbook or certification provides.

The market signal
Inbound demand — before launch

Before Sequestia was formally launched, multiple landowners, government bodies, and project implementers had already reached out seeking project development support. The market had identified the gap independently. This inbound signal — demand without marketing — confirmed both the scale of the opportunity and the rarity of the expertise required to address it.

Today
Founding Sequestia

Sequestia was founded with a deliberate model: not to own all projects, but to be the development engine behind credible ones. Assisting government bodies and private landowners in designing, structuring, and implementing carbon projects — against a fee or a share of credits generated. Starting lean, building track record, and scaling with a network of collaborators across technical, scientific, legal, and financial disciplines. The vision is a firm that becomes synonymous with project quality in India's carbon market.

What we stand for

Three principles.
Non-negotiable.

These are not values on a wall. They are operating constraints that shape every project decision we make.

01
Financial discipline first

Every project we develop is modelled for real investor returns — not just carbon credit volume. If the numbers do not work for a sophisticated investor, we say so before committing resources. This protects landowners and government bodies from projects that stall at the funding stage.

02
Registry integrity — always

We design projects to the registry standard, not around it. Shortcuts that create downstream verification risk are not options we offer. The carbon credit your project generates should be worth exactly what it claims — and that is only possible with uncompromising methodology compliance from day one.

03
Community partnership — not compliance

Communities are not a box to tick on the way to registry approval. They are the long-term stewards of every project. We invest in genuine consent, transparent benefit sharing, and ongoing dialogue — not because the registry requires it, but because projects built with communities outlast those built over them.

Our team

The right expertise
for every project.

We operate with a lean core and a deep bench. Rather than maintaining a large overhead, we assemble the right interdisciplinary team for each project — drawing from a network of specialists built over six years of applied work in India's carbon market. You get focused expertise at every stage, without the inefficiency of a large agency.

Finance, Taxation & Legal

Financial modelling, IRR analysis, tax-efficient project structures, carbon credit legal frameworks, investor agreement drafting, and Indian regulatory compliance.

Climate Scientists

GHG quantification, emission factor development, climate risk assessment, IPCC methodology application, and scientific defensibility of baseline and monitoring approaches.

Botanists & Ecologists

Species identification, biodiversity assessment, allometric equation selection, vegetation mapping, ecosystem health monitoring, and co-benefit documentation for registry submissions.

Engineers

Technical project design for engineered carbon removal, biochar production, renewable energy systems, waste-to-energy, and infrastructure required for project implementation.

GIS & Remote Sensing

Satellite-based land analysis, NDVI monitoring, deforestation risk mapping, land-use change detection, project boundary delineation, and spatial data management for MRV.

MRV Specialists

Monitoring plan design, digital data collection tool deployment, annual monitoring report preparation, field protocol development, and coordination with third-party verification bodies.

Community Specialists

FPIC process facilitation, stakeholder mapping, benefit-sharing framework design, local language communication, grievance mechanism establishment, and livelihood co-benefit documentation.

Registry & Methodology

Verra VCS, Gold Standard, Puro.earth, and India CCTS methodology selection, PDD drafting, additionality demonstration, registry account management, and credit issuance coordination.

How we assemble the team. Each project brings a different combination of disciplines to the foreground. A mangrove restoration project needs a different team configuration than a biochar project or a renewable energy initiative. We match the expertise to the project — assembling the right collaborators from our network rather than deploying a fixed team regardless of fit.

Core team manages project structure, finance, and registry from day one
Technical specialists engaged based on project type and methodology
All collaborators bound by confidentiality and quality agreements
Single point of accountability to you — regardless of team size
Our journey

Built through
applied experience.

Not theoretical. Every capability Sequestia offers was earned through direct project work in India's carbon ecosystem.

Year 1–2
Entry into carbon project development

Joined an established carbon project developer. First exposure to registry methodology, PDD structure, and the Indian regulatory environment for nature-based projects.

Year 2–3
Mangrove & wetland project work

Hands-on development of mangrove restoration projects — blue carbon methodology, community engagement in coastal ecosystems, and first experience with Verra's tidal wetland standards.

Year 3–5
Full lifecycle project management

Led projects from land assessment through investor negotiation and MRV tool deployment. Built investor network and established relationships with government clearance bodies across multiple Indian states.

Year 5–6
Market recognition & inbound demand

Multiple organisations began approaching for project development support — independently validating the expertise and the gap in the market that Sequestia was built to address.

Now
Sequestia — founded

Operating as an independent carbon project development firm, serving private landowners and government bodies across India's voluntary and compliance carbon markets.

What sets us apart

Why clients
choose Sequestia.

There are consultants who understand carbon markets. There are financial advisors who understand returns. There are scientists who understand ecology. Very few can do all three — and none with the depth of applied Indian project experience we bring.

Finance, taxation & legal expertise — within the carbon team

Our grounding in financial analysis, taxation structures, and carbon project law means every project is structured for investor due diligence and regulatory scrutiny from the first conversation — not retrofitted at the funding stage.

Six years of applied Indian project experience

Not theoretical carbon market knowledge — direct, on-ground project development experience across India's regulatory environment, government clearance processes, community dynamics, and registry submission requirements.

A ready network — not a promise to build one

Our investor relationships, technical collaborators, and government contacts were built over six years of active work — not assembled in response to a client brief. When you engage Sequestia, the network is already operational.

Both voluntary and compliance market capability

We develop projects for both the international voluntary carbon market (Verra, GS, Puro) and India's emerging domestic compliance framework (CCTS). Projects can be designed to maximise value from both — simultaneously or sequentially.

Honest assessment — including when a project is not viable

We are not a sales organisation. Our value depends on our credibility. If a land parcel does not meet registry eligibility, or if the financial model does not generate adequate returns, we say so — clearly and early. This protects your time and resources, and it is the only model on which a long-term relationship can be built.
